Freight Class Calculator is a free, independent web tool for LTL (less-than-truckload) shippers, brokers, and warehouse teams. Enter the dimensions and weight of one or more pallets and we calculate density and estimate the applicable NMFC freight class instantly — no signup, no spreadsheet, no waiting on a rep to call back.
Alongside the calculator, the site includes a density-to-class reference chart, a lookup for common commodities, a dimensional weight calculator, and a reclass cost estimator, so you can sanity-check a quote or catch a misclassification before it turns into a costly reweigh and reclass fee.
Why we built it
Freight class drives LTL pricing, and getting it wrong is expensive — carriers routinely reweigh and reclass shipments, and the difference between two adjacent classes can swing a quote by a meaningful margin. Most shippers don't have an NMFC subscription or a classification specialist on staff. This tool exists to give anyone shipping LTL a quick, reliable estimate before they book.
What we're not
We are not a carrier, broker, or freight forwarder, and we are not affiliated with the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA), which publishes and owns the official NMFC. Our calculator applies the standard density-based class tables as a free estimation tool.
